Developing mental skills is increasingly recognised as an important part of increasing sports performance. Hypnosis is based on the power of suggestion to create those positive mental habits that will create increased success, consistency and enjoyment in your sporting endeavours.
Sports Hypnosis combines hypnosis with traditional sports psychology to assist with many common sporting psychological problems. It is particularly effective for building confidence, overcoming poor past performances, and visualising new techniques.
Hypnosis has been used in sport for at least the last 50 years, and has recently seen a renewed interest from both the research community and sports participants. Numerous well-known sportspeople have used hypnosis in the past, including boxer Frank Bruno, former England cricket captain Mike Brearley, athlete Iwan Thomas, and golfer Ian Woosnam. More recently, Beijing Olympic champions, Steve Hooker (pole vault), Vince Hancock (Olympic skeet) and football teams, Crystal Palace and Swindon Town have also benefited from sports hypnosis.
